With a volume of 7,000 cubic meters of concrete, corresponding to nearly 1,600 prefabricated concrete elements, the new Truck Shop set up by the Vice Presidency of Projects for the Andean division of the state mining company has seismic design characteristics that do not exist in other similar projects. , which makes this Truck Shop unique in Chile and the world.
“The design condition that Codelco requires is quite high in terms of seismic design,” stressed Vladimir Urzúa Mella, general manager at DS Engineering, the office that was in charge of this item. “For this particular case, the snow overload was also considered, which was 1,950 kilograms per square meter and for seismic mass effects, self-weight plus dead loads, more equipment and 50% of the snow overload were considered. So, it gave us a fairly robust structure, but at the same time, quite efficient,” explained the general manager of DS Engineering, who is also technical manager of the Ibero-American Precast Concrete Committee and member of Committee NCh2369/2003.
